Winterplace Ski Resort, located on the summit of Flat Top Mountain, is one of the most accessible skiing areas in the Southeast. With Interstate 77 crossing the mountain alongside the resort at 3,500 feet above sea level, it is easy to get to, even during the most sever winter snowstorms. Offering 27 downhill ski trials, a snow tubing park, and a terrain park, it makes for quite the ski destination. Many call Snowshoe “West Virginia’s Winter Skiing Capital” and for good reason with 57 downhill skiing slopes and great shops, galleries, restaurants, and clubs. The resort could be called “upside down” with the villages at the top of the mountain, rather than at the bottom. National forest envelops the mountain summit, which is a 4,848-foot elevation averaging 180 inches of snowfall annually. There are two downhill ski resorts located in Canaan Valley, Canaan Valley Resort State Park and Timberline. Canaan is home to 34 trails, tubing, a snowboarding park, 25 kilometers of cross country trials, 23 cabins, and a 250-room lodge. Visitors will also enjoy the great restaurants, numerous lounges, and fabulous conference facilities. The gorgeous views overlooking the southern Canaan Valley make a visit to this resort more than worthwhile. Timberline offers visitors 36 trails, tubing, sledding, and beautiful slope-side homes. Many consider Timberline the centerpiece of West Virginia’s skiing industry with all of the gourmet restaurants, clubs, conference facilities, specialty shops, and great cabins and condos located in the area. With the park and national forest surrounding the valley, there is so much to do on a vacation to the Canaan Valley. |
