The North Cascades Region Along the Canadian/US border is the North Cascades region. Immense mountains and looming glaciers peer over at fields of sunflowers, towering forests, and pure mountain lakes. For a great biking trail try the Cascade Loop. Start out in the town of Index in Doolittle Park. Out of Index you can also find great rafting companies that will guide you on the Skykomish, Snohomish, Sauk, and Stillaguamish rivers. For a taste of the shoreline in this region, visit Point Roberts. It’s a small peninsula that offers activities such as hiking, strolling along the beach, watching Orca whales, seals, birds, and fishing. If its extreme adrenaline you crave, try paragliding off one of the region’s legendary take off points. Try Barr Mountain in Monroe if you’re an amateur or try Green Mountain, Goat Wall and Chelan Butte if you are ready for a more extreme ride. Horseback riders will want to travel by horse one day in Lake Chelan National Recreational Area or the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Skiers and snowboarders should try out the Echo Valley Ski Area outside of Chelan or the Leavenworth Ski Area run by the Leavenworth Winter Sports Club. Visit quaint towns or one of the many roadside fruit stands along your route to see the history and kindness of the region. Wherever you decide to tour in the North Cascades region, you can expect stunning scenery in a natural paradise. |
