Only carefree days await our guests of "Once in a Blue Moon Farm."
Follow the winding country road to the distinctive blue gates. Pass through to the other side into a dream-like world of nature’s colors. Leave modern day life complexities behind, and enjoy a world filled with old country honesty and simplicity. On the 35-acre island farm, silky cashmere goats, playful soft llamas, and friendly bright-eyed horses graze in the pastures and historic orchard. Ducks swim in the pond and chickens range freely in the barnyard. Numerous deer, rabbit and wild fowl are a common sight on the farm’s expansive landscape. Bald eagles, hawks, and northwest turkey vultures soar over the surrounding forest and fields. Visitors to the farm will certainly enjoy the many opportunities for close viewing of familiar farm animals and also forever "free" wildlife in their natural habitat.
We can offer you a choice of two different rental settings on the grounds of this unique island farm, with one very special accommodation - we DO allow your pet to visit with you!
All accommodations include linens, towels, full kitchen with complete kitchenware, microwaves, and coffee makers. (Water shortages are common in the islands during the summer months and conservation is necessary.)

Large deck with sweeping mountain views.
Our largest rental is a 3 bedroom 1 and 1/2 bath guest home. This spacious unit has panoramic water and mountain views from its large sunny deck. This home will sleep 9 adults comfortably (sofa bed in the living room allows for two extra adults).
Special amenities include: Satellite TV, Wood burning fireplace (wood included), Large family kitchen and dining room, Outdoor gas BBQ with comfortable deck funiture. (Perfect for festive meals on the deck under our wide blue afternoon summer skies and star studded summer nights.)

Large old world terracotta patio overlooking pasture and horse arena.
Beautiful 2 bedroom plus a den, 1 bath home with large covered terracotta patio overlooking green pasture and horse arena (If not eager to try riding the horse in the arena, this field is also perfect for kite flying and vollyball and frisbee matches!). This vacation rental sleeps 6 adults comfortably in two separate bedrooms.
Special amenities include: Fully equipped kitchen, antique china hutch, plus a large formal dining table next to the fireplace for special party and family meals. Large 50 inch screen satellite TV, fireplace, (wood included), Outdoor gas BBQ, Outdoor family dining furniture is on the huge patio.

Individual Rooms
Some with shared, some with private bathrooms. All individual rooms include use of sitting room and satellite TV, decks and patios, but no kitchen and BBQ facilities. Not available on weekends or holidays.

Our very special accommodation:
Unlike most vacation rentals in the San Juan Islands, we DO allow you to bring your pet to our guest farm. We are a FARM - and we love animals! We provide a secured, covered kennel next to each rental unit. A security deposit is required and is fully refundable. We regret, however, that your pet will have to remain leashed on the property at all times, since our farm animals, especially the llamas and goats, are frightened by unfamiliar dogs. Bringing your pet into the vacation unit must be pre-arranged on a case-by-case basis. We appreciate your cooperation.
How to get to Once in a Blue Moon Farm:
There is always special transportation required to visit an island. You can either fly, take a private charter boat, or take the ferry from Anacortes. If you do take the ferry, you will be directed to turn left once you depart the vessel. Drive 2 miles to Eastman Road, and turn right. Follow the winding road for 0.4 miles until you see the blue gates on the right.
Ferry schedules change quarterly, so be aware of departure times during your stay. If you need a ferry schedule, we can send one to you (when available), or for the most up-to-date information, you can visit their website at http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/
Arrangements can be made to pick you up if you wish to leave your car in Anacortes and walk on the ferry, or if you would like to fly to the island. Car rental is also available.
Things to do while at "Once in a Blue Moon Farm"
1. Stroll through the historic orchard. In season, hand pick apples, plums, cherries and pears.
2. Upon advanced reservation, have a supervised hands-on session with llamas, horses and goats. Walk the animal on a lead, learn about brushing and spinning the animal fiber. Horses can be ridden in the arena under supervision only. Pony rides for children can also be arranged. (All the above to be individually arranged and nominal additional fees will be charged for the personal supervision time.)
3. Basketball and paddleball court with equipment supplied at no cost for our guest.
4. Enjoy many nature walks available on the grounds.
