Inland Rhode Island The inland region of Rhode Island is the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, home to the state capital, Providence, and a shopping mecca for the state and northeast region. The Blackstone Valley is a land of rivers and woodlands that provided fuel for the Industrial Revolution that had important effects on America's growth as a manufacturing giant. In the area dozens of factories sprung up, employing working-class families and drawing immigrants from around the globe. Today, many serve as factory outlet stores, art studios and artists' lofts. Providence is often called Rhode Island’s “Renaissance City”. The city is known for its wide array of cultural and historic attractions. Walk the streets to glimpse the Colonial, Federal, Greek Revival, and Victorian architecture found in its buildings and homes. See Benefit Street’s “Mile of History” on the East Side and Federal Hill, the states own “Little Italy”. Three and a half centuries have provided the people of Providence with a lot to share and a lot to be proud of. The City of Warwick is home to Route 2, the “Miracle Mile of Shopping”. Home to unique shops, discount stores, two large malls, famous retail shops, and specialty boutiques, the city attracts hundreds of thousands of shoppers a year. Visitors looking for a little shoreline can find it at Narragansett, off Narragansett Bay. Here you can find marinas for boating, sailing outfitters, and beaches for shell searching. |

Founded in 1639, Newport is a truly historic American city. Built in the early colonial period, the city has evolved from being an early American colony, to a summer hotspot for American socialites, to an important base for the United States Navy, and now into the yachting capital of the world. Newport’s rich architecture is visible in its narrow streets and colonial homes. The city also boasts of miles of scenic coastline just perfect for sailing excursions, relaxing on the beach, and refreshing walks. Perhaps that is why Newport has such a universal appeal.
