Southeast Pennsylvania
Beautiful and full of rich history, this is a perfect way to describe the southeast region of the state. This is a place where our forefathers dared to dream, struggles and sacrifices in battle were made, and independence was found. The region is also home to great inns, restaurants, and museums. Philadelphia is the birthplace of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, but offers much more than its cobblestone streets and historical attractions. Cultural, culinary, artistic and ethnic treasures can be found throughout the fifth-largest city in the country, and there is not any sales tax on clothing! The Liberty Bell and Independence Hall are all in the downtown area, as is the Independence National Historical Park. Valley Forge National Historic Park is where General George Washington trained his Continental Army into a fighting force during the winter of 1777-1778. Although no battles were ever fought, the army lost 2,200 men at Valley Forge. Today, the park is a green, 3,600-acre spread of rolling hillsides framed by delicate dogwood trees. Washington's original stone headquarters is restored and refurnished, original log huts have been reconstructed, and statues and monuments have been erected throughout the park to remind visitors of our national birthright. |
