Schafer's Country Vacation Cottages are among the few remaining historic "Family Cabins" that once thrived along highways throughout America. Schafer's Country Cottages consist of five fully modernized cottages. Accommodations range from small and cozy for two to a spacious three-bedroom house for up to 14. All cottages have private baths and fully equipped kitchens which include dishes, utensils, pots and pans, microwaves, toasters, and coffee-makers.
Schafer's Country Cottages serves families, couples looking for a romantic getaway, wedding parties and honeymooners, sportsmen & outdoor enthusiasts, Penn State visitors and alumni, tourists, history buffs, people just passing through. Cottages 1-4 are original and were built in the 1930's. Cottage #5 is a quaint, spacious 3 bedroom ranch-style unit adjacent to the cottages. Families & groups can rent all five at once. For an additional fee, special arrangements can be made for outdoor canopies, extra tables, equipment, catering or other services.

~Schafer's Country Cottages are located in scenic Penns Valley - the heart of Pennsylvania's Amish farming Community. East Penns Valley is the home of several Amish sects. Horse-drawn buggies frequently clip-clop along Aaron Square, the main street through town. Visitors can sample Amish life by visiting the farmer's markets and shops where the Amish make and sell a variety of fresh produce, baked goods, quilts, crafts, and furniture. Discover the next family heirloom at the numerous antique shops and quaint country gift shops within a short drive.
Just twenty-five minutes away is the city of State College, home of the Main Campus of Penn State University. Visitors are welcome to explore the campus with its many museums, libraries, cultural pursuits, and sporting events. Take in a concert at the Bryce Jordan Center or sample the delicious ice cream at the Creamery! Downtown State College is a beautiful, vibrant college town with unique shops and a wonderful variety of restaurants.
Summer brings many outdoor fairs and festivals to the area. State College and Penn State University jointly host the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts in July where approximately 350 artisans from all over the country display their works in an outdoor market. The People's Choice Festival of Pennsylvania Crafts in July and The Bellefonte Arts and Crafts Fair in August both highlight the talents of central Pennsylvania's artists and craftsmen. In June and September the Antique Machinery Show fires up its engines at Penns Cave. Thousands of antique tractors and engines are on display for the public and you'll have to bring comfortable walking shoes to browse the huge flea market area.
December brings Victorian Christmas in historic Bellefonte, Colonial Christmas in historic Boalsburg Village and the Christkindl Market in historic Mifflinburg. You can celebrate the season with old-fashioned flare.
Those seeking outdoor recreation will find it in abundance nearby. Fishing in famous Penns Creek, Elk Creek and Fishing Creek. Hunting, hiking, snow-mobiling, or mountain-biking in nearby Bald Eagle State Forest, Hiking the Mid-State Trail
