Although the Northwest is known for its rain, the Central Region of Oregon boasts over 300 days of sunshine. Bachelor is the premier Pacific Northwest winter ski area, located near the towns of Bend, Redmond, and Sunriver. You can find evidence of homesteaders such as stone shelters, tools, cans, log cabins, barns and water troughs that will forever be a reminder of the challenges faced by those who tried to live in this area. In addition, the Grassland is a refuge for deer, elk, antelope, mountain lion and other small and large mammals. There are also various species of songbirds, waterfowl, shore birds, upland game birds and raptors, including the Northern Bald Eagle.
