Stretch out in our apartment overlooking the Pacific surf lapping the beach in quiet rhythm --- a 180-degree panorama in your field of view at all times, with a pictureque lighthouse to the North and Yaquina Bay to the south where the fishing fleets exit and enter.
With the aid of a pair of binoculars, you can watch the whales, dolphins, seals, and sea lions cruising along the coastal waters from North to South or vice versa, depending on the season of the year.
Stay in our quaint old Castle, the Hilan Castle in Newport, Oregon, with its crenellated roofline, built in 1913 for a writer/photographer couple by a lumber baron friend and now listed in the U.S. Register of Historic Places [Building # 81000500].
You can pamper yourself with physical and spiritual comforts in totally private surroundings [any ghosts still
hanging around there are reported to be amiable!]
Newport is an old fishing and lumber town. But it offers cultural niches that are unique and unexpected for
this area: the Newport Performing Arts Center; the Hatfield Marine Science Center; the Visual Arts Center;
the Oregon Coast Aquarium (Keiko's last home before his emigration to Iceland)); and many wonderful
seafood restaurants. The seafood there is fresh and delicious, because it has just been caught by the local
fishermen. Alternatively, you can go out and catch your own: crab, clams, mussels and fish from the beach
or piers.
There are also many ocean-going vessels here which can take you out to sea for a day cruise or fishing
adventure. They always have experienced hands and guides aboard...
The castle is built on a slope and has three levels. The apartment is in the lower level and consists of
two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a storage room. The apartment is completely
