The Central Region The Central region of the state is home to beautiful parks, skiing, Lake Erie, Columbus, the state capital, and great attractions for the whole family. Visit Sandusky on the shores of Lake Erie for fishing, swimming, boating, water skiing, and other water activities. While in town visit the Maritime Museum of Sandusky to learn about the Lyman Boat Works, ice harvesting, and commercial fishing. An hour southeast of Columbus in Logan lies the Hocking Hills State Park. The scenery is amazing, featuring caves, towering cliffs, and magnificent waterfalls. With 24 miles of hiking trails, notably Old Mans Cave, Rock House, and Cedar Falls, the outdoor lover will not be disappointed. Skiers will want to check out Mad Rive Mountain Ski Resort boasting the biggest skiing, riding, and tubing in the state. Open from December to March the resort has eight lifts and 20 runs on 125 acres. Kids will love the attractions that can be found in Columbus. Visit the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium to see animals from all parts of the planet living in the naturalistic habitats. Kids and adults will love the African Forest region, the restored 1914 Mangels-Illions Carousel and Wurlitzer 153 band organ, and the Manatee Coast, one of only three facilities outside of Florida to exhibit manatees. Cedar Point Amusement Park has been voted the Best Amusement Park in the World for seven consecutive years and is home to Top Thrill Dragster, the world’s tallest, fastest roller coaster. In fact, Cedar Point has 16 roller coasters, the largest collection of any park, and four are over 200 feet tall! However, the park also has award-winning entertainment, a beach on the shores of Lake Erie, and an ice-skating extravaganza. Families love central Ohio! |
