If you vacation on the weekend after Labor Day, you can witness the nation’s oldest community celebration, Las Fiestas de Santa Fe, commonly known as the Fiesta. This is a non-stop party with parades, pageants and mariachi bands. The Native American communities or pueblos are open to the public. Visit the Taos pueblo to experience a thousand years of tradition and to shop for some lovely pottery. Take a day trip to the nearby Chaco Canyon National Park, Tent Rocks and walk the Turquoise Trail.
