Northeast New Mexico Northeast New Mexico is full of historical and natural attractions. Visit where the explorer Coronado thought he had found gold at the Seven Cities of Cibola, and actually found the treasure of Pecos Pueblo. The abandoned pueblo used to tower to five stories high, however, today visitors can see the ruins of an adobe Spanish colonial church. This vacation destination is full of Old West experiences and history. See the wagon ruts still left on the Santa Fe Trail or visit the St. James Hotel in Cimarron where Billy the Kid, Buffalo Bill Cody, and Annie Oakley frequented. Beautiful displays of nature can be found alongside the historical attractions of the area. Known for its many lakes, this region is home to the Blue Hole in Santa Rosa. Scuba divers flock to this 81-foot deep pool that maintains a year-round temperature of 63 degrees. Anglers will want to take a few days to fish the Conchas and Utes lakes that are home to pike, bass, catfish, and trout. |
