Outdoor Adventure Once the snow melts it is time to enjoy the cool temperatures of an Angel Fire summer. If you want to spot some wildlife or enjoy the numerous un-crowded trails, mountain biking is perfect for you. You can either bike down Angel Fire’s ski area or take your bike up the Chile Express and explore the lovely trails at the top of the mountain. If you are visiting in September, you can witness the annual Chile Challenge, New Mexico’s Off Road Annual mountain Bike State Championship that features two days of cross-country, downhill and dual slalom mountain biking. Anglers can head for Monte Verde Lake with its abundant stock of trout, try Eagle Nest Lake that has rainbow trout and kokanee salmon, or go to Cimarron Canyon for some premium fly fishing. Another great way of appreciating the mountain environment is a game of golf at the plush Angel Fire Resort Golf & Country Club. Treat yourself to a stimulating experience at the 18 hole, 6,600 yard PGA-rated championship course located 8,500 feet above sea level. Angel Fire, flanked by the Carson National Forest and the Cimarron Canyon Area, boasts of great hiking trails. Strap on your boots and head for Clear Creek Trail, which is good for beginners or Elliot Barker Trail with spectacular views of the Moreno Valley, Eagle Nest Lake and Baldy Mountain. If you are looking for an adventure, try your way up 13,161 feet high Wheeler Peak. You can also enjoy the area on horseback and participate in cattle drives and cowboy evenings. |
