The Northern Region The northern part of New Hampshire is known for woods and water and White Mountains. What most people would call an adventure is the way of life in the northern neck of New Hampshire. Hunting, fishing, wildlife watching, snowmobiling, boating, and, of course, camping are just some of the activities you can enjoy while vacationing in this region. The Tall Timber Lodge and Log Cabins on Back Lake is noted as the best fishing lodge in the state. Families love to vacation in the unspoiled wilderness, at a resort that offers unparalleled fishing, loon listening, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, hunting, snowmobiling and moose watching. The White Mountains, named for the snow that falls in the winter, are anything but white in the other three seasons. The area is known for its beautiful colors of the flowers in the spring and summer and the gorgeous hues of the foliage in the fall. In fact, towns like Woodstock, Lincoln, Littleton, and Twin Mountain are known for their summer friendly resorts. The region is, however, legendary for its skiing and snowboarding, as there are over 20 Nordic centers and resorts for visitors to learn or tweak this wintertime sport. In Bartlett, visitors will find the Attitash Mountain Village, one of the finest winter skiing resorts in Mt. Washington Valley. Other skiing and snowboarding areas not to miss are Black Mountain in Jackson, the Bretton Woods Mountain Resort, Cannon Mountain in Franconia, and the Cranmore Mountain Resort in North Conway. |
