Yellowstone Country The South central region of Montana is known as Yellowstone Country. Home to great dinosaur digs, Lewis and Clark, the Wild Wild West, beautiful scenery, and the great Yellowstone National Park, this small piece of Montana offers a taste of the past with a modern twist. The world’s first National Park, Yellowstone, is 2.2 million acres of geysers, alpine lakes, rich wildlife, wildflowers, and waterfalls to explore. Stay in West Yellowstone, a park gateway that can provide a full range of lodging, dining and recreational possibilities. Fishermen will want to travel to Bozeman and the surrounding areas for great fishing along the region’s streams. The best fly-fishing in the area runs from late June through early October, though you can usually fish in March and April. In the winter, visit Bozeman for great skiing and riding. Big Sky Ski and Summer Resort is just south of town and to the north is Bridger Bowl. Both resorts are known worldwide for their challenging terrain and family-friendly atmospheres. From the end of May through Labor Day weekend, it's rodeo season, so get ready for bucking broncos, angry bulls, and steers. You can also visit many towns where you can ride your own horse through the beautiful scenery where The Horse Whisperer was filmed. Three Forks is where three rivers, the Madison, Gallatin, and Jefferson come together to form the Missouri. Montana’s first state park, Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park, features one of the most highly decorated limestone caverns in the Northwest. Come see its beauty, along with great historical attractions, in this city created by the great adventurers, Lewis and Clark. |
