| The Sylvanus Knowles House cira 1864 - Eastham Vacation Rentals Massachusetts Vacation Lodging |
Designed in the Greek Revival style of the mid 1800s, the Sylvanus Knowles House is home to our small, sophisticated bed and breakfast, pairing modern amenities with historic ambiance. Our unique location on Fort Hill in the Cape Cod National Seashore overlooking Nauset Marsh, Coast Guard Beach and the Atlantic Ocean is acclaimed as the "jewel in the crown of the National Seashore." The Boston Globe recently wrote "The Fort Hill Bed and Breakfast has the most prime location of any B&B on Cape Cod and it is one of the most beautiful."
The inn and three acres of gardens are priviliged to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Fort Hill Rural Historic District. Surrounded by more than 100 acres of marsh, beach, ocean, forest and fields yet central to the charming viallages of Chatham, Orleans, Provincetown and Wellfleet, the Fort Hill Bed and Breakfast is the perfect place to stay for a relaxing vacation while exploring Cape Cod.
The inn's TWO SUITES located in the historic wing of the main house (Emma, Lucille) and very private HONEYMOON COTTAGE (Nantucket), are gracious and generously sized. Each accommodation is a private refuge, uniquely decorated to reflect the casually refined atmosphere of Cape Cod.
The romantic Emma suite, with private library/sitting room, large bathroom with soaking tub/shower and gracious bedroom with canopy bed is a perfect choice for a longer stay. Upstairs, the bright and airy Lucille suite with slanted eves ceiling, wide planck floors and dressing room adjacent to the private bath, retains its quintessential Cape Cod character. The spacious Nantucket cottage has it all! With a private patio/garden, it is a private refuge that has over 880 sq ft of living space including living room with views to the Atlantic, tiled bathroom with shower, wetbar/dining room, and bedroom with skylight and balcony.
All accommodations have modern private baths, queen size beds, TVs, AM/FM radios with CD players, individually controlled heat and air-conditioning, down comforters, separate guest entrances, hair dryers, plush robes, beverage refrigerators, and lots of fluffy towels. The two suites in the main house share a livingroom with working fireplace while the cottage has its own gas fireplace. Iron and board, beach towels, beach chairs and umbrellas will also be provided for all quests.
In each of our special living rooms, whether it is your private living room, library/sitting room or the common room, you will be treated to the finest in luxury, comfort and convenience. We encourage our guests to enjoy an early morning beverage in the privacy of their suite or in the common room by the hearth, a perfect place to read, share a quiet conversation or leaf through a Cape Cod guide book, restaurant menus, local paper or area maps. We will be happy to help you choose from the many activities and fine dining establishments on the Outer Cape.
A full country breakfast is prepared fresh each morning and includes such tasty treats as baked apples with raspberry-cider glaze, fresh fruit cup, cheesy-chive egg souffle, and Grand Marnier French toast. We surprise you each morning with a different homemade bread or muffin. These might include our special Sweet Jammie or oatmeal date-nut muffins, or perhaps our buttermilk-current scones, hot from the oven.
