Annapolis History The City has an interesting Colonial Historic District and is the largest in the country. A stop at the homes of the Maryland Signers of the Declaration of Independence, or a leisurely stroll to the white domed, pillared state house will be a learning experience. It is the oldest state house in the country that still functions as a legislature. The original Senate Chamber here witnessed George Washington resigning as Commander in Chief of the Army in 1783. |
