Daniel Boone Country Eastern Kentucky is known as Daniel Boone Country. Pikeville is home to, possibly, the nation’s longest feud lasting from the Civil War to the 1890’s between the Hatfield and McCoy families. The “Grand Canyon of the South” can be found near Elkhorn City in Breaks Interstate Park. The canyon that contains the waters of the Russell Fork River is the largest east of the Mississippi, being more than five miles long and 1,600 feet deep. This is a great river for whitewater enthusiasts, being one of the top rafting rivers in the country with up to Class V rapids. |
