The Beaches
With the bay on one side and the ocean on the other, Dewey is a paradise for beach lovers. The golden sands, the clear blue waters and the sizzling sun make for a refreshing day on the beach. The public beaches might be teeming with crowds, but explore a little bit and you will find some quiet and peaceful stretches too. As you watch the waves roll in, look out for dolphins near the shores, especially during summer.
The John Waples Memorial Playground, on the bay side of McKinley Avenue, has been a favorite haunt for youngsters for the past twenty-five years. The Indian River Life Saving Station is educational fun for the whole family. Whether you are looking for fast food or gourmet dining, you will not be disappointed in the area’s many dining options. If you are one of the partygoers then you can join the never-ending revelry, anytime, at most of the restaurants and pubs that proudly display the sign “Open Year Round”. Dewey offers the daytime ambience of a quaint family beach town coupled with an exciting nightlife after sundown. Concerts and other musical events are hosted during summer at the Bandstand on Rehoboth Avenue.
