A Charming Town The town of Estes has a charming and warm atmosphere. In the past, there were efforts to amass landholdings in the valley to create a large private hunting preserve, but these attempts to consolidate were luckily thwarted and the modern day small owner-run businesses and great diversity reflects this decision. There are numerous ways to enjoy the town. The streets are dotted with little shops selling everything from Southwestern arts to fine apparel. You can relax at a trendy coffee shop or relish the mountain air on the patio or balcony of one of the many cafes. Soak in some Estes Park history at the Estes Park Historical Museum, which has some fascinating exhibits from the first inhabitants of the area, the Ute, Shoshone and Comanche, to the early explorers in the mid-nineteenth century. Do not miss the Stanley Steamer, a remnant of the days when F.O. Stanley built the Stanley Hotel, the inspiration for Stephen King's book The Shining. Another interesting attraction is the Michael Ricker Pewter Casting Studio and Museum. This gallery has more than 1,000 pewter sculptures, including the Park City, a masterpiece, which is the world’s largest miniature pewter sculpture. |
