~The Palm - More Home Than Hotel
This Victorian B&B is located between Yosemite and Tahoe on Highway 49 in the Central Sierra Gold Country town of Jamestown, California. The Palm is reminiscent of fine European Bed and Breakfast Hotels and offers eight unique rooms with private baths. It is located one block off Main Street and embodies the grace of the past with the addition of modern comforts of air conditioning, TV and private parking.
Jamestown is the perfect destination, with several restaurants of every description and over thirty different galleries, boutiques and shops. Also within strolling distance is Railtown State Park, home to the historic Sierra Railroad, as featured in over 100 movies. Jamestown's central location make all of California's Mother Lode an easy day's journey. Yosemite, Sonora, Columbia State Park, Lake Don Pedro, Emigrant Wilderness Area, Dodge Ridge and Bear Valley; each could be a vacation in itself.
The Palm staff will be happy to arrange reservations for live local theater tickets, golf, gold panning, ski lift tickets, train rides, dinner, therapeutic massage, carriage rides, rafting, winery tours and more. And of course you'll be on your way each morning with a hearty homemade breakfast, served in the parlor or on the porch.
All this romance, adventure and relaxation in a delightful country setting is only a leisurely two and a half hour drive from the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento or six hours from Los Angeles. It's the perfect place for relaxing, a romantic getaway, couples retreats, reunions, weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, proposals and honeymoons. Many of the Palm's guests have returned over and over again to relive old memories and create new ones.
WHAT TO DO IN JAMESTOWN
Jamestown, the Gateway to the Mother Lode is a gourmet's delight, a train buff's mecca and a antique collector's find. It is all walkable; so, park your car, relax, and enjoy your stay at the Palm Hotel Bed and Breakfast.
Walk the historic streets of Jamestown. We have 30+ unique shops and 15+ eateries. Between Main Street and Hwy 108/49 is Smoke St. - the old "red light" district. The most extensive art gallery is on Main St. at the east end of town (past the Post Office, just before returning to Hwy 49/108). So you don't miss anything, see Jamestown from end to end.
Dining in Jamestown is the highlight for many of our guests. We have several quality dinner restaurants each with its own flair. Ask us to describe them for you.. Most serve to 9 or 10 PM. Some even make their own desserts - right in front of you!
See Railtown State Park and its steam trains that have been in 100 + movies and TV shows. Open everyday is the special gift shop and recently refurbished depot with historic video show. Steam train rides are available on the weekends. And, don't miss the Round House tour - it is very unique.
Pan for Gold right on Main Street. You get to keep all the gold you find (we won't tell the IRS). Also available are gold panning trips to the famous Woods Creek. These trips can be as short as one hour or all day.
Wander through history in one of the two Jamestown Cemeteries. Walk west on Main St. to the last house on the left and turn left along a narrow paved street that goes over the hill (no pun intended). The older of the two grave yards, is just a little out of town off Cemetery Road on Hwy 49/108 in the same direction.
