A vacation to Flagstaff is a great way to experience all that Northern Arizona has to offer in a picturesque Old West town. Located just off of famed Route 66, Flagstaff has been a vacation destination for years. Having small town charm with big city excitement, cool summers, gorgeous spring flowers, colorful fall foliage, and great outdoor activity and recreation, its no wonder this once small trading town has a growing tourism business. With over 200 restaurants, quaint inns, historic hotels, eclectic shopping, and a crazy nightlife, Flagstaff makes for a great weekend destination or a great town to spend a week or longer. For those looking to get a taste of western cuisine, the town has great restaurants featuring authentic flavor. Try the Beaver Street Brewery, Black Bart’s Steakhouse, or Charly’s Pub and Grille. All are renowned for great burgers, barbeque, and southwestern cooking. The nightlife in Flagstaff consists of old saloons and new clubs, offering patrons a little bit of everything whether you want to sit at a 100 year old bar or dance all night. The Museum Club, also called the Zoo, is the Southwest’s largest log cabin and was built in 1931 to house Native American artifacts and a collection of genetically unique animals preserved through taxidermy. It now hosts rising country stars while patrons two-step around the trees or browse in the Route 66 gift shop. Shop in Flagstaff’s Historic Railroad District featuring a variety of shops, clothing boutiques, outdoor gear outfitters, bookstores, galleries, and restaurants. In addition, visitors will find great antique shops and boutiques throughout town to buy jewelry, fur, handmade objects, and gifts. | The attractions and activities see and do in the area will amaze you. With the Grand Canyon, Oak Creek Canyon, and Sedona’s Red Rocks in the area, outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do. Spend a few days at the Arizona Snowbowl that boasts a 2,300-foot vertical drop and 260 inches of annual snowfall. Ski December through April or ride the lift to mountain bike and hike June through October. The Coconino National Forest is a great place to hike or watch wildlife in the area. It is the world’s largest contiguous forest and is home to desert cacti, an alpine tundra, and plenty of wildlife. Established in the 1870s, Hubbell Trading Post is the oldest continuously operating trading post in the Navajo Nation. The station continues to serve the Navajo population as it did 100 years ago. Many say the nicest Hopi kachinas, Navajo rugs, and jewelry are displayed at the post. The Grand Canyon is known throughout the world for its awe-inspiring size and involved and vivid landscape and is also one of the most magnificent examples of arid-land erosion in the world. The park is over 1,904 square miles including the 277 miles of the Colorado River. Come visit Northern Arizona in an authentic old west town. See why the locals say "they don't make towns like this anymore!" |
