TE RUA TOKA is a completed modernised "A" frame house with a fantastic beachfront location set in a coconut grove. Just 30 paces through the sandy tropical garden with hibiscus and other tropical plants leads you to the beach with the South Pacific waves breaking on the close by reef. Have you ever seen such colours? Being 200 yards from the main road ensures a traffic free location and the garden has perimeters of hedges high enough for privacy.
Lounge on your own high (1m) deck (7mx3m) which is half roofed over to provide some shade and enjoy the view through the palm fronds. The deck is accessed via twin wide glazed double doors giving a panoramic view from the spacious (7mx4m) sitting area with 3 three-seater couches, two of which convert to beds for occasional use (an area can be curtained off for privacy when used as an overspill bedroom). Equipped with TV and ceiling fan, the light and airy tiled room is cool to relax in.
A small step up leads to a dining area 4mx3m with two tables and four chairs. The open plan kitchen is brand new. It contains a gas cooker, two refrigerators, one small freezer and the custom made cabinets contain new saucepans, toaster, sandwich maker etc. A sink with stainless steel double top is featured and of course there is hot and cold running water. A downstairs toilet, wash basin and shower complete the house accommodation although a utility room beyond the kitchen is fully enclosed and has a washing machine and space for drying clothes.
An outside cold water shower completes the ground floor. Upstairs, a single bedroom (5m x 3m) is equipped with a queen sized double bed; also a single bed both with new interior sprung quality mattresses. There is cupboard space and a separate small wash hand basin and toilet area. Four windows give good ventilation and a standing oscillating fan gives additional draft. The roof is a special reflective design and is insulated; this in the well shaded site keeps things cool.
Despite its secluded location (we have never seen more than 30 people on the mile long beach) the hotel (Edgewater) within five minutes walk provides all the usual facilities (and tennis with coach) and has a good value restaurant (Spaghetti House). Within 10 minutes walk there are five of the island's top restaurants (including Chinese) and the airport is a mere two miles away.
The main town, Avarua, is five miles away and the house enjoys long days being in Arorangi on the sunset (west) side of the island where the climate is also drier. We are sure you will enjoy a holiday to remember for a lifetime in this wonderful island paradise.
The rates are NZ$125 per night for a couple and $10 per night per adult over that. Children under 12 are free.
